NEW LEASE, NO PHONE

On August 3rd I was approved for Smart Pay and a lease agreement was signed for a new Samsung A50. My first payment was made, my documents printed. At the POS terminal the Walmart employee did not know how to complete the sale using the bar codes printed by the WARP system for this transaction. Because the employee could not properly finalize the sale, the store kept the phone on the lease, attempted to cancel the lease agreement with Smartpay and assured me I would be refunded the amount that I paid. As of today, I still have the lease obligation with my next payment due on the 30th. I even have a phone number associated with the phone Walmart kept, however it is now assigned to someone else. And Walmart has the phone I am paying for. How is any of this possible or ok?
